Welcome

The South London Enterprise Hub has been set up to support good practice in enterprise education in South London secondary schools. It is part of the national Schools' Enterprise Education Network (S'EEN).

This website is designed to act as resource centre and information sharing forum. As a South London school you can access and share examples of national, local and your own good practice and to find details of training workshops, seminars and consultancy to be provided free by this network.

Local contact points for help and advice are also provided for each school. Your school has been allocated a Business and Enterprise Spoke school partner who you can contact for further information: click here to find your contact.

For more information on this network or if you would like to share good practice in enterprise education contact Jonathan Lorrimer.

“An Outstanding Qualification that our students absolutely love!”

We introduced the NCFE Level 2 Developing Enterprise capabilities qualification to all 196 of our year 9 students at Ursuline High School Wimbledon last year and it has been an amazing success. At Ursuline, Enterprise learning is at the centre of our Teaching & Learning policy and everything we do. As a Business & Enterprise specialist school we assess the development of Enterprise skills from year 7 upwards using an approach that runs through all subjects. We were looking for some time for a suitable way to accredit the skills that our pupils develop and the NCFE qualification met all of our needs. By allowing teachers the flexibility to design a course based around certain key fundamental Enterprise principals, this qualification allowed us to assess the skills our pupils had developed through a hands-on, project based approach. It allows for lessons to be fun and engaging and the pupils really appreciated the real-life relevance of what they were learning, By giving them the opportunity to set up and run their own mini-enterprise it allowed them to put into practice the business content and Enterprise skills they had learnt in the classroom whilst furthering their understanding of Social Enterprise and the skills you need to be a successful entrepreneur. We received fantastic support from all at NCFE throughout the course of the year, from initial planning meetings, to support on assessment and moderating portfolios, the quality of the support from NCFE was what every teacher hopes for when introducing a new qualification.

We delivered the course through our ICT lessons in Year 9. Pupils had an hour per week and homework and were expected to work on some of the group work activities in their own time. The flexibility of the qualification allowed us to enrich the activities by bringing in speakers on a number of topics, and this year as we run the course with our next cohort of Year 9 students we are looking to incorporate industry visits to further enrich our pupils experience. The Developing Enterprise capabilities course has proven to be a fantastic success and is loved by students and staff alike. I would recommend it in the strongest possible terms to all teachers who are looking at ways to assess Enterprise skills, which with the introduction of the new Key Stage 3 Programmes of Study is now a central theme of the National Curriculum, and to all those that just want to make their curriculum more fun, engaging, educational and  relevant.
